My Story
In September 2022, a dirt biking trip with a friend turned into a five-day stay in the trauma unit of my local hospital. A piece of broken collarbone pierced my lung, causing it to collapse. A call to a friend in the healthcare business resulted in a home visit and a newly-found friendship with an accomplished trauma physician who reviewed my chest x-ray and sent me immediately to the Emergency Department. Within moments of arriving at the hospital, I was surrounded by doctors and wound up with a tube in my chest and my room on the trauma floor.
During my stay, I met many incredible healthcare providers. I confirmed a belief that had been forming for many years--that our nation's hospitals and intensive care units do an incredible job at saving lives, but out of necessity, place the socio-emotional needs of their patients on the back burner. Walking the hallways during my recovery brought me face-to-face with many discouraged patients and mourning family members.
Born from this and other life experiences, Healing Hearts seeks to fill the missing piece in our nation's healthcare systems by bridging the gap of emotional healthcare.
